Never underestimate what God can create with the broken pieces of your life
Hi. My name is Taylor and I am a broken mess of a person.
I’ve got more dings, dents, scars, and patched-up wounds than I can count – I honestly dont think there’s a single piece of my heart or soul that hasn’t been damaged by something or someone.
And I’d be willing to bet that you probably feel that way too …
When I think about my life, the mistakes I’ve made, all that has happened, and the hurt along the way, my first instinct is to reject that anything good can come from so much brokenness.
I feel flawed. I feel damaged.
I feel like I deserve pity, not love or appreciation for what I’ve overcome. I often look at my brokenness as something bad or something that I should be ashamed of.
But what I have to remind myself of – and what Im reminding you of as well – is that my brokenness is only broken by MY definition – my misconceived and misunderstood perception of “perfect”.
I might be broken by the worlds standards, but I am perfect by HIS standards …. His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God made me. He designed me and is in control of what happens in my life. He allowed these cracks and dents and scars to occur. He knew I’d be changed.
And maybe that’s the point …
Maybe I’m perfect IN my brokenness …
Maybe you are perfect IN your brokenness …
Never underestimate what God can create with the broken pieces of your life.
Maybe this brokenness is meant to create a new person altogether. One that loves harder, cares deeper, gives more abundantly, worries less, and prays more.
There is a Japanese word called Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the art of taking broken pottery and repairing the broken pieces with gold. The Japanese have the philosophy that the value of an object is not in its beauty, but in its imperfections, and that these imperfections are something to celebrate, not hide.
So maybe…
If God’s power is perfect in our weakness, and we are made in his image and our imperfections make us valuable and beautiful, maybe we need to start looking at our brokenness as something wonderful and be proud of it all rather than ashamed of.
My prayer for you today is that you look at your “damage” from a different lens. I want you to look at it from a place that celebrates your resiliency (you might be broken but you’re not done yet). One that embraces imperfections and sees it all as unique beauty to be celebrated, not flaws to be rejected. One that allows for the possibility that God is taking those broken pieces and is rebuilding you into someone even more amazing, loving, giving, and incredible than you were before. Tap into your faith and never underestimate what God can create with the broken pieces of your life. Amen!
XO
